Smiling while weeping
The death of Sweetie triggered the waterworks and good memories all at once.
Today my wife and I both have massive hangovers. No, it’s not you think. This past Monday, after watching her 10th life ebb day-by-day, we had our beautiful cat, Sweetie, euthanized.
So, a hangover of sorrow.
Tell me, how does it feel?
I don’t have to explain the feeling to you animal lovers. You know it well: Flat as a pancake; not hungry; hard to concentrate; melancholy reminiscence.
In short, we’re a bit of a mess at the moment. And, of course, things will get better. They always do after we lose a furry family member. But nothing stings quite like voluntarily saying goodbye to such a good friend.
What an awful decision to have to make.
She’s was a beauty
Sadness is understandable at a time like this. But what gets us over the hump is remembering how beautiful Sweetie was, and that she was a gift from God.
Rather than bore you with more words, we thought it would be better to share some images of hers truly:
So, yes, the house is a bit empty today. But, yes, we’re still smiling. It’s amazing the impact a small furry creature has upon the human heart. But I don’t need to tell you that.
So long, sweet friend.
“A righteous man regards the life of his animal . . .” —Proverbs 12:10a
Such a fine tribute to your lovely pet! No doubt it left a hole in your hearts!
Condolences are in order for your loss of a family member, because pets are more than just animals that wander around the house...they really are...family. Anyone who has welcomed a pet into their life knows that very well.
